Having been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), Cleveland's JACK Casino and Thistledown Racino will both reopen their doors at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 19 -- the first day casinos are permitted to reopen in Ohio.
In reopening, both JACK locations have implemented new policies and procedures in adherence with government mandates and CDC guidelines, as well as additional safety protocols deemed essential by the gaming company, including a 50 percent capacity limit.

In order to ensure the safety of guests and employees, the JACK Cleveland Casino and Thistledown Racino will be following the following safety measures:
Mike DeWine greenlighted casinos as of June 19, Jack Casino, Miami Valley Gaming and Hollywood Casino are set to reopen next week. In Indiana, Boyd plans to open Blue Chip Casino Hotel and Spa, and Belterra Casino Resort on June 15, and Belterra Park in Cincinnati, Ohio will follow on June 19. That includes the Jack Cleveland Casino, Jack Thistledown Racino in North Randall and MGM Northfield Park. DeWine said in his news conference that the horses were running at the racinos. 'We will monitor this rapidly changing situation and will keep you informed as decisions are made on when we will reopen.
- Social distancing, with capacity, limited to 50 percent capacity and reconfigured gaming floors to ensure spacing.
- Mandatory facial coverings for all table game players and all employees. Complimentary masks will be available at both locations.
- Increased vigilance and frequency of sanitization of all surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectant.
- Increased training and education for all JACK team members.
- An increased use of contactless technology, including a Virtual Players Card, for a contactless experience while using Jack Entertainment's Mobile App as their ClubJACK rewards card.

Several local casinos will temporarily close Friday as Ohio deals with the coronavirus pandemic.

MGM Resorts International released the following statement:
'As of midnight tonight, MGM Northfield Park will suspend operations and temporarily close,' said MGM Chief Operating Officer and President Bill Hornbuckle. 'We will do all we can to mitigate the impact on our employees and partners. We will monitor this rapidly changing situation and will keep everyone informed as decisions are made to reopen in the future.'

'Based on directives from the State of Ohio, we will be temporarily suspending our operation at JACK Thistle Down Racino and JACK Cleveland Casino. We will be actively working to limit the impact on our team members, guests and partners and we will announce a reopening timeframe as soon as we have additional information. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to your favorite JACK property as soon as possible,' said Chad Barnhill, Chief Operating Officer of JACK Entertainment.
Earlier in the day, the Ohio Casino Control Commission ordered the state's casinos to comply with Governor Mike DeWine's mass gathering order that limits the number of people who can be in a single room or space due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Currently, the order bans gatherings of 100 people or more.
JACK Cleveland Casino, JACK Cincinnati Casino, Hollywood Casino Columbus and Hollywood Casino Toledo have until midnight to comply with the directive.

The casinos were also ordered to submit their plans to maintain compliance.

'The Commission continues to monitor the COVID-19 situation and may take additional actions if needed.'
